Quietly at his bedside I sit, listening to his steady breathing. In and out, in and out and then a startled catch or a moan. His dreams of falling cause his body to jolt in his bed. The medication lulls him back to dream another dream.

The dreary rain outside the window entices me to close my eyes and have a nap. There is just enough nervous energy in me to give me a slight headache and keep my mind from finding peace.

Now feels like the perfect time to go to the hospital cafeteria to get a white chocolate, macadamia nut cookie and a hot cup of decaf.
